Israel is shaping a reality centered on control of trade routes
The visit of India’s prime minister in Israel today is no less significant than a visit by the President of the United States.
India matters because:
1. Israel is in an arms race with Turkey. Israel holds technological superiority - Turkey holds industrial capacity. India is an industrial giant, far stronger than Turkey in that regard. Beyond defense procurement, India can assist Israel with foreign labor, industrial expertise, space cooperation, communications, and the establishment of production lines.
2. India is destined to become one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of economic volume. Today, it is the fourth-largest economy globally. Even if only a fraction of a percent of its population enters the middle class each year, it is equivalent to adding a new European metropolis annually. India faces many challenges where Israel can offer meaningful support - green technology, environmental solutions, water management, and energy systems.
3. New alliances. When the Indians say, “Israel is our friend,” they are also sending a message to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, and others - that the future trade corridor connecting India to Europe will pass through Israel. This places pressure on America to support Israel - and on Germany as well. India is an industrial competitor to Turkey, and an Indian-Israeli axis is a strategic setback for Erdogan.
Together with Israel’s growing ties with the United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Somaliland, and Greece - from India to the Horn of Africa, from the Mediterranean to support for the Druze in Syria and engagement with Central Asian states - Israel is shaping a reality centered on control of trade routes.
These are extremely important days, as Israel helps shape the Middle East against the backdrop of Iran’s weakening - and in the face of the emerging Islamic axis of Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, with whom we are in a race for strength and influence.
In the era of great power and civilizational competition, Israel has demonstrated to the world one of the most advanced military and one of the most stable financial sectors. As we enter the industrial revolution of artificial intelligence, Israel is positioned strongly for the new global order.
