Trump announced that he will suspend all trade relations with Spain after Spain’s prime minister, an extreme wokist, condemned the war and refused to allow the United States to use bases on Spanish territory. Trump said that Britain’s prime minister, Keir Starmer, is “certainly no Winston Churchill,” and France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, stated that the war violates international law.

How did we reach a situation in which a war against the West’s greatest enemy — a murderous regime that has killed thousands of civilians in the West and only recently slaughtered 30,000 of its own citizens — encounters such hostility from people who see themselves as enlightened?

The explanation lies in woke: a deadly virus that takes over institutions and consciousness and neutralizes human nature.

Two days after October 7, I met a woke lecturer from the London School of Economics, where I had taught. After expressing condolences to the people of Israel following October 7, he turned to me and asked that we “be moderate with the browns” (meaning the Palestinians). I asked him whether I didn’t look brown enough to him. But of course it doesn’t matter, because Jews are considered privileged whites and therefore cannot be right, while the Palestinians are the oppressed “browns” and therefore almost always right.

The Trump administration’s strategy document defines Europe as a civilization in decline. Despite the glorious history of this continent, it is sick with the disease of woke. The elites there have completely lost their common sense, and as a result they are also losing the masses, who see their cherished nation-states being washed away under European woke policies.

That is why we see rebellion in Britain (Nigel Farage), in the Netherlands (Geert Wilders), in Scandinavia, in Italy (Giorgia Meloni), and in Germany. Interestingly, Germany is somewhat of an exception in the wokist landscape, because the German chancellor, Merz, comes from the conservative party and is competing with the Alternative for Germany party for the right-wing vote that has moved even further to the right. For that reason, he has also aligned himself with Trump.

Trump is the last person who can still save the West from itself. Israel must use the three years remaining in his term to formulate a strategy that reduces its dependence on the West and shifts its strategic focus to India and its allies within the framework of the “hexagon strategy” — or the “heptagon,” if Iran were ever to become pro-Israel in the future.

Because the day after Trump we may receive a woke American president, some kind of crazy Mamdani-type figure. Until that moment arrives, Israel must establish its position as a regional power — militarily, economically, and culturally — able to stand on its own and not rely solely on the West.

Fortunately, Israelis are not foolish, and woke is not popular here. But it has taken over the universities, parts of civil society (such as organizations funded by the New Israel Fund), and segments of the left-wing media — and that is something we must be very careful about.
