Before watching the movie below that illustrate the subject of this article, I want to add my own comment. There are quite a few social media applications that are open-source and can be installed on a local server like Mastodon, Friendica, GNU Social, Diaspora to name just the alternatives to Facebook, Google Plus and Twitter. As for chat, there is Zulip that it looks in some regards like Microsoft Teams and can be combined with Jitsi, another open-source project aimed at providing videoconferencing service. An interesting protocol and service for Chat, VoIP and Video-conference is Matrix protocol, "an application layer communication protocol for federated real-time communication.", adopted already by France, Germany and Mozilla corporation, replacing their IRC solution. In short, there are alternatives and you can free yourself from Facebook, Google and Twitter. If you are not preset there, they can't exercise the censorship on you. This being said...
